In-Patient Care
Referral FormSt Francis Hospice provides in-patient care in both Raheny and Blanchardstown.
St. Anne’s In-patient Unit, Raheny Hospice accommodates 19 patients, some in single rooms and others in shared rooms.
Blanchardstown Hospice In-patient Unit accommodates 24 patients in single rooms, each with en-suite facilities.
Both Raheny and Blanchardstown have Jacuzzi bathrooms, seating areas for visitors, and access to the gardens. Some overnight family accommodation is available in both sites. Wi-Fi is available in both sites.
There are a number of reasons that people may be admitted to one of our In-patient Units, for example, pain and symptom control or specialised care in the final stages of your illness.
The services of the In-patient Units are available to people who live in North Dublin and the surrounding counties. Referral to the unit is made through your GP, hospital palliative care team, the St. Francis Hospice Community Palliative Care team or Outpatient and Day Service team. We also accept referrals from Meath, Louth and Kildare community palliative care teams. Referral forms can be downloaded here.
Please note that referral from your GP or consultant is needed.
You should bring along all medicines or dressings prescribed by your own doctor and give them to the nursing staff on your arrival. Please feel free to bring in personal items such as photographs which may make you feel more at home. We advise that you leave your valuables at home. We cannot accept liability for any loss or damage to your personal property unless it has been handed over for safekeeping. You should also bring:
- Slippers
- Dressing gown
- Night clothes
- Day clothes
- Personal toiletry items (toothbrush, face cloth, soap, etc.)
Family and friends may visit any time as there is no restriction to visiting hours. However, we would ask that you respect the privacy of other patients, especially in the shared bedrooms, and try to limit the number of your visitors to 2 or 3 at any one time.
There are also some communal sitting areas available for visits with family and friends.
Children are welcome to visit and to use the play area provided, as long as they are supervised by an adult at all times.
In most cases your pets are welcome to visit, too; please speak to your nursing or care staff to make arrangements for this.
If you wish to have restricted visiting, please speak to the nursing staff and this can be arranged.
When you arrive, we will give you and your family a booklet with further information about the in-patient unit.
Members of the team you may meet during your admission include:
- nurses
- care assistants
- household staff
- doctors
- chaplains
- social workers
- occupational therapists
- physiotherapists
- trained volunteers
- administration staff
- contract cleaning and security staff
This multidisciplinary team works closely together to provide care that is holistic and designed to meet your needs. We would like you to be involved in all decisions regarding your care. Family members are welcome to take an active part in caring for their relative/significant other if they wish.
