In memory of Granddad - we think of him each November as the Australian summer begins... Ode to Summer Reaching for shade from the hot summer sun As we burn on the beach til the day is done As we wait for night when the waves will crash We sing and dance and make a splash Music on high with everyone up And all of them are holding a glass or cup For it's not winter where we stay inside With children and blankets who go and hide No it's summer now, full of heat And we'll walk on the sand with bare feet Swimming and playing on the ocean we will Til people get tired but dance still And we wait for the time when Christmas arrives So we can celebrate and laugh and change our lives We will walk in sunglasses and thongs each day 'Put on your sun cream' the parents will say The beach, the water, the heat, the sun For that is what summer has become A season to celebrate our efforts and work So join us why don't you, do not shirk
